Anne Simon and the Maine university made headlines by qualifying for the famous March Madness tournament. Our national team player was a huge part of the team’s success over the last years and will now get a chance to compete against the strongest college players in the USA.
In the America East conference final, Maine was able to grab a 64:48 victory against Vermont. „We had a small advantage because we played at home. However, Vermont is a strong team and we were extremely focused because we knew that they can beat us. I would say that the chances were 50:50 before the game. » Simon helped her team with 15 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists, another strong performance for the « most outstanding player » of the America East tournament.
Now, all the focus will shift to the March Madness tournament. Because all games are single-elimination games, the tournament could possibly be over after one game. „It means a lot to me to play the March Madness. That is why I came back to Maine for another year. I wanted to make this dream come true and we did that, a super feeling. » Maine could play against an absolute top team in the country in the first round, even a matchup against IOWA is possible. „Playing against IOWA would be cool. I do not expect us to play against them but it would be an amazing experience. »

It was Simon’s 5th and final year at Maine. After the March Madness tournament, Simon’s eyes will be on her future. „I clearly want to play professional basketball. At this moment, I do not know where I will play. Obviously, my dream is to play in the WNBA or at least to practice with one of the teams, that would be amazing. »
