Another year comes to an end and it is time to take a look at the main events of the year 2021.
January 2021
1. Restart in February / cup competition cancelled
–> Early in January, the decision was taken to restart the season 2020/21 in February, but unfortunately only for the first women’s and men’s leagues. After a long break because of the Covid-virus, the games continued without supporters.
February 2021
2. Men’s national team beats Kosovo in a bubble
In a bubble, our national team had to live in a special situation for a week and they managed to grab a big win over Kosovo.

March 2021
4. The RTL LIVE ARENA is online. From this day on, we are able to watch the games of the first league (LBBL) live in a stream.
April 2021
5. Thomas Grün extends contract in Trier. Grün is the team captain in Trier and his extension was never in doubt.
May 2021
6. The spectators are finally back in the gym.
June 2021
7. T71 women win the championship. Atfer trailing the finals 0:1, Dudelange won 2 straight games to beat Résidence 2:1. Catherine Mreches was the MVP of the series. ( –> T71-women win the championship 2020/21 (video-highlights) )
8. Magaly Meynadier changes her club and returns to Saarlouis where her professional career started, she played the last few games of the Total League season for Gréngewald Hueschtert after playing for Nördlingen all season.
9. Ben Kovac extends contract with Den Helder Suns (first league in the Netherlands) and enters his second season as a professional player.

11. Alex Laurent joins club in Belgium. After playing in Austria, Alex Laurent joined the club Kortrijk Spurs (second league in Belgium) to continue his professional career.
12. Lisa Jablonowski stays in Italy and plays another season for Costa Masnaga.
July 2021
13. Our women’s national team wins the Gold medal at the European Championship of the small countries.
August 2021
14. Ivan Delgado becomes a professional player in Iceland to start his career.
15. Our men’s national team faced Portugal (74:83) and Sweden (76:129) in the pre-qualification tournament for the World Cup.
September 2021
16. Ken Diederich joins the luxembourgish basketball federation as « head of basketball ».
17. New name and new logo for the first league – Luxembourg Basketball League (LBBL) is the new name for our top leagues with the main sponsor TOTAL ENERGIES. The 2021/22 season starts, finally again with all competitions including youth leagues.
18. The women team of Gréngewald were active in the women’s EUROCUP qualification. They faced a team from Italy and had a chance to qualify or at least to win the second game at home, but in the end, the « greens » lost one game and the second game ended on a rare tie (61:61). The club wants to continue to play in these international competition.
November 2021
19. Our women’s national team played at home against Switzerland (54:58) and on the road against Italy (48:82) in the FIBA 2023 Eurobasket qualifiers. During the home game, Tessy Hetting, Michèle Orban and Laure Diederich were honored for all their years in the national team.
20. In the FIBA 2025 Eurobasket Pre-Qualifiers, our men’s national team played against Albania (89:92 loss on the road) and in a home game in front of a big crowd in the Coque, Luxembourg lost 70:73 against Romania. The next games will be played in February 2022.
