The 4th and last round (7 games) started this weekend in the men’s National 2.
In the fight against relegation, BC Mess earned a hard fought 89:86 key win over Mamer. Led by Caldwell, who scored 32 points on 9 made three-pointers, Mess grabbed a close win on the road. Maxime Sunnen added 16 points for the guests that can (basically) plan for another season in the National 2. BC Mess now has a big 5-point advantage and earns the tie-breaker against Mamer with 6 games remaining so that the decision in the fight against relegation basically has fallen this weekend, even if Mamer and Black Star theoretically still have chances to stay in the league. The trio McDaniel (24), Stephens (22) and Bedirhanoglu (27) combined for 73 points but it was not enough for Mamer, the team started a comeback over the last weeks but right now the situation in the standings got a lot more difficult.
In the race for the promotion spots, the race gets even more exciting after Bascharage ties in the standings with Zolwer after a close 81:75 win. Scott Morton scored 29 points while Mark Kennedy added 26 as the Hedgehogs improve to an 14:8 record, the same as rival Zolwer. However, Zolwer earns the tie-breaker as the team won the direct comparison, this could potentially become a big factor after 28 games. Jenkins led Zolwer with 28 points on Sunday.
Black Star Mersch stays on the bottom of the standings after a 83:88 loss ion the road against the Kordall Steelers. Gordon’s 42 points were not enough for the guests as 3 Kordall-players scored 22+ points including point guard Max Schmit (22). With this loss, Black Star’s chances to stay in the league are only theoretical.
League leader Gréngewald is just one step away from promotion! The team was able to beat Mondorf 62:57 on Sunday behind 21 points by Barnes and 10 made three-pointers on the road. Gilles Fassotte led Mondorf with 17 points, the team falls to the 4th place in the standings but stays in contention for the promotion spots. Khalil Small had to leave the game in the first quarter after 2 technical fouls. Gréngewald can potentially clinch a place in the men’s LBBL 2022/23 next weekend dependings on the results.
