Only 2 out of 4 games were played in the men’s National 2 this weekend, the games Bascharage – Gréngewald and Zolwer – Mess were cancelled and will have to be rescheduled.
On Saturday-evening, Avanti Mondorf earned a key win over the Kordall Steelers in a duell between 2 teams that want to keep their chances of promoting to the LBBL alive. After a 95:83 win on the road, Mondorf has a record of 10 wins and 7 losses while the Steelers now have 8 wins and 8 losses and it will be difficult for the team to stay in touch with the top teams over the next weeks. Khalil Small had a game-high 43 points while Tiago Figueiredo (22), John Ross (15) and Bob Hemmen (10) added double digit scoring for Mondorf. Barkley and Hobbs combined for 60 points for Kordall but it was not enough to grab a win at home.
In the second game of the evening, Black Star hosted Mamer in the duell between the bottom teams in the league. With an 81:62 win, Black Star stays in touch with BC Mess while Mamer’s chances to stay in the league are reduced to an absolute minimum. Marquavias Gordon continued his great scoring run since entering the league with a game-high 32 points, Patrick Hoffmann led Mamer with 23 points.
The standings in the league do not show the full picture as multiple games were cancelled and rescheduled over the last weeks and teams have not played the same amount of games. Gréngewald and Bascharage are clearly in the best position to reach the promotion spots at this moment while Mamer’s situation at the bottom of the standings is looking more and more difficult.
