At 17 years of age, Dionne Madjo has decided to join « Flammes Carolo Basket » in France for the upcoming season in order to combine school and basketball. She will be part of the youth program in the club that competes in the women’s EuroCup with the first women’s team.
In last season’s Espoires finals, Madjo showed her potential by scoring a game-high 38 points (video) and took home the game MVP at 16 years of age for the Black Frogs Schieren. During the summer, she was part of the U18 national team in the preparation for the European Championship. While things did not work out for her to participate in the European Championship, Madjo eyes to join Luxembourg’s national team soon: „I want to play for Luxembourg in the future. Playing at a European Championship is the perfect opportunity to compare yourself with the best players of other countries and hopefully I can be part of the team this season. »
In the 2024/25 season, her focus will be on becoming better as a player, that is also why she decided to find a new destination abroad. „I joined Flammes Carolo because my goal is to combine basketball and school in the best possible way. It was a difficult decision but after participating in 2 practices in France, I had a good feeling. I talked to some people and came to the conclusion that this would be a good place for me to develop. I know that they have a great coach and that I can learn a lot by joining the club. »
Madjo has high ambitions for her future. „My goal is to play basketball at a high level, in Europe or in the United States. I hope that I will have the choice where I can play in a few years, I am sure that my new club in France will be the right place to help me take the next step. Hopefully, I will be ready to join a high level team in the future. »
Women’s basketball in Luxembourg clearly has a bright future ahead and Dionne Madjo is another talented player to look at over the next years.
