111 points scored, 15 made 3-point-shots and 52 % overall shooting against Amicale last Sunday. These numbers look very impressive, but for Etzella, they have been (nearly) standard so far this season. The unbeaten leader’s offense has been impossible to stop.
Last Sunday, US-player Pwono was quiet for his standards (16 points, only 9 shot attempts) but as a team, the squad from Ettelbruck was rolling. The Gutenkauf-brothers combined for 40 points, Benseghir knocked down 5 « 3’s » and the team had a total of 24 assists on 38 field goals.
Overall this season, Etzella is leading the league in scoring at 99.2 points per game, nearly 12 more points than Esch and T71 in the second place (both 87.5). They hit a league-best 13.5 three-point-shots per game on a ridiculous and logically also league-best 44.8 percent from behind the arc. When it comes to free-throw-shooting, they trail only Basket Esch when it comes to percentage (78.2 %).
Another quite surprising stat is that despite their great shooting percentages, the team is averaging the most offensive rebounds in the league (11.5). Part of the reason for this stat is the incredible high pace that the team of coach Kresimir Basic is playing. Etzella’s season low in points came on game-day 1 with 85 against Sparta, since then, they have always scored 93+ points with a total of 3 games above 100 points.
Next Saturday, Arantia Larochette will have the difficult task to slow down Etzella in Larochette. If Etzella can play at the same level they have been playing so far, it will be hard for any team to beat the unbeaten leader, especially if you try to play at a similar pace than Gutenkauf and Co.
