This weekend, a full game day was played in the men’s Nationale 2.
Leader Gréngewald had a great week and won both of its games, on Thursday against Kordall and on Saturday against Black Star Mersch, the final score was 79:64. After these 2 wins, the « greens » have a big advantage in the standings, their 16:2 record is by far the best in the league and they can be considered the clear favorite to promote with 10 remaining games this season. Eric Steffen was the main scorer of Gréngewald on Saturday with 17 points (5 threes) while Thomas Henkel added 14 points as the home team knocked down 15 shots from behind the arc to beat Mersch. With a record of 4:15, Black Star remains in dangerous territory as the second worst team in the league at this point.
The Kordall Steelers made another change on the professional players position as league leading scorer Barkley was replaced by Causwell. After losing to Gréngewald during the week, the team lost the second game in a row in Monnerich against BC Mess, the hosts won 78:76. With this big win in the fight against relegation, Mess puts more pressure on Mersch as the team grows its lead towards the opponent (Mess has 3 more wins than Black Star despite having played 2 games less). Kordall now has a 9:10 record, the team is not in a position anymore to fight for the top 2 spots but they also have a large lead over the bottom teams in the league. Alexander, who made his debut for Mess, (28 points) and Camps (27) led the hosts on Sunday.
Zolwer improves its record to 12:6 and ties with Bascharage in the standings after a clear 87:57 win over Mamer. Council scored a game-high 30 points while Vic Heuschling added 16 points. Mamer (2:17) only has theoretical chances left to stay in the league. Patrick Hoffmann was the leading scorer for Mamer with 20 points.
Avanti Mondorf stays in a decent position in the promotion race after a very important 94:91 win over their direct opponent Bascharage. Mondorf hit 16 three-pointers on its way to this home victory and improves to 11:7 in the standings, good enough for 4th place and a very interesting position moving forward. While Small (34 points) and Ross (26) combined for 60 points, Bob Hemmen gave the team a big spark with 23 points (7 threes) in this game. Scott Morton and Aziz Ndiaye scored 28 points for the guests that now have a 12:6 record and are tied with Zolwer.
While Gréngewald was able to build a bigger lead in the standings, the race for the places 2 and 3 has gotten more interesting this weekend with Bascharage (12:6), Zolwer (12:6) and Mondorf (11:7) being the main candidates to fight for a promotion spot over the next weeks. The Kordall Steelers (9:10) would need a big winning streak to re-enter the promotion discussion.
