The first decisions have fallen in the men’s National 2 this weekend.
On game day 24, Gréngewald Hueschtert clinched its ticket to the LBBL in the 2022/23 season. The last appearence of the men’s team of the club in the first division dates back over 40 years. Gréngewald doiminated the season and has won 21 out of 24 games this season, they can celebrate the promotion 4 game days before the end of the season. On Saturday, they won on the road against the Kordall Steelers, the final score was 84:72. Barnes (27 points), Janssen (22), Henkel (12) and Breuskin )10) scored in double digits.
AS Zolwer remains second in the standings after a 102:62 win over Black Star on Sunday. 5 Zolwer-players scored more than 13 points. Vincent Sunnen scored 19 points, Vic Heuschling had 15 and Davide Grün added 13 points while Pit Hansen led Black Star with 18 points. After this loss, Black Star has lost all chances to stay in the league and relegates to the third league. Zolwer has the promotion in its own hands, they earn the tie breaker against Bascharage.
Zolwer’s main rival for the second place in the standings, Bascharage, did not play this weekend as their game against Mamer was cancelled. Mamer has 28 points in the standings, 5 points behind BC Mess and Mess earns the direct comparison so that Mamer needs to win 5 out of 5 games and 4 losses by Mess at the same time to stay in the league over the next weeks.
Avanti Mondorf stays in the race for a promotion spot after a 119:82 win over BC Mess. Small scored 42 points while Ross added 31 points for the guests in this blow out victory, Mess had the lead after the first quarter but Mondorf ran away with the start of the second period. Fassotte (15) and Hemmen (10) were in double digits as well, no JICL player scored more than 5 points for Mess. Mondorf needs to win the next games and hope for Zolwer or Bascharage to struggle in order to jump to the 3rd place in the standings in the last weeks of the season. BC Mess needs one more win or a loss by Mamer to officially stay in the league.
