Amanda Cahill has been one of the best professional players in Luxembourg since her arrival to the country four years ago. This summer, she will be part of Luxembourg’s national team at the games of the small European countries.
„It’s an honor to represent Luxembourg and join the team in Malta for the games. The team has been very welcoming and we are working hard to prepare through practices, meetings, scrimmages, and a training camp in Vittel. I have enjoyed getting to play with some of the players from across the league who I’ve always liked and respected and now we get to play together » says Cahill who is known for her all around game in the women’s LBBL. With 25 points and 10.5 rebounds per game, she has been one of the most efficient players of the league while shooting a league best 64 percent from inside the arc.
The 26-year old player has high goals entering the tournament where Luxembourg will face Cyprus, Montenegro and the host Malta. „Our goal is to win the entire thing and get a gold medal. We have been preparing and have a great group of girls with a great coaching staff. I think everyone is on the same page that we want to go and perform to the best of our ability to win. »
Since her arrival in Luxembourg, Cahill has been pleased with the country overall and will now get a chance to wear the jersey of team Luxembourg: „Luxembourg has been a great place to live and play for the past four years. I have met so many wonderful people and have a great community that makes it easier to be so far away from home. I enjoy the multicultural feel and central location in Europe to travel often as well. I am thankful this is where basketball has brought me and I hope to get citizenship next year. » While her team Résidence Walfer has decided to play in the National 2 next season, Cahill should definitely attract a lot of interest around the LBBL league and find a new destination to play for in the upcoming season.
The first game of the women’s team at the GSSE will be on Monday against Cyprus.
