Oliver Vujakovic is part of the men’s national team roster for the upcoming game against Albania on February 27th. The 25-year old Vujakovic has not played an official game in the 2021/22 season but he stayed in shape and is ready to help team Luxembourg.
You have not played a game so far this season. What is the reason?
The main reason was university and my studies. The road trips in Austria were very long and took a lot of time and energy, so that I was not able to do many other things. I decided not to play for Tirol anymore because I did not want to be a part time player for the team. Furthermore, I needed some time off after the summer with the national team, time to recover mentally and physically. This break was very good for me and now I am ready and motivated to attack.
Do you know in which club you will play next?
Not yet. I will finish my bachelors degree and then start a masters degree. There are a few options where I will go to university, this decision will have an influence on the next club I will play for. For example, it is also possible that I will play in Luxembourg again if I will continue my studies in Trier. But at the moment, I do not have a definite plan.
How did you stay in shape?
It was a good feeling not to have a basketball in my hands for a longer period but there are many other ways to stay in shape. I did some running, went to a fitness center and worked on a lot of things with my body so that I can really say that I am physically in great shape.
How big is the joy to practice and play with the national team right now after your personal break?
It is always special to play for Luxembourg and it is great to meet the guys from the team and to talk and work together. I am extremely motivated and ready to fight for a victory with the team. I am in the provisional roster right now and if I will have a chance to be on the court it will be an amazing moment after this break.
How did you follow the first 2 games of our team?
I watched both games in the live stream and supported them. The team played very well, it was great to watch them. We did not win a game but the results give us hope to win the next 2 games by more than 3 points and to qualify for the next round, that would be a big goal that we have.
What is the mindset of the team entering the game?
Obviously we want to win the games and reach the next round of the qualification, that’s how high the expectations in Luxembourg have become and that is a great sign in my eyes. We need to stop their outside shooting as the opponent scored 17 three-pointers in our first meeting. We will have to do a better job defending those shots and then hopefully they will not hit as many shots at the Coque.
