Ivan Delgado started the season 2021/22 in Iceland. However, a foot injury kept the member of the sports army out for nearly the entire year and the season was all about recovery for our young national team guard.
„Last season was definitely a difficult time for me, physically and mentally. I went abroad to play basketball and could not even practice with the team. This was a special and challenging situation. After the operation, I started a rehabilitation program that took me months and I am very happy that I was able to get through the whole process. My trainers and training partners helped me a lot during this time and that is why I am very thankful for each of them because they helped me recover as fast as possible » says Delgado who will play in Germany in the upcoming season. He will play for the Ehingen Urspring basketball academy in the Pro B league, a club where his national teammates Thomas Grün and Jonathan Diederich were active as well.
After the long recovery process, Ivan is now back at full strength. „I am back at 100 percent which feels great. I practiced every day over the last months in order to reach this point. Now, the focus will be on playing a good season in Germany. We want to win a lot of games and I want to be a leader on the team. As a combo-guard, I will work on my point guard skills which will help me a lot in the future. The number one goal for me is to stay healthy, play at a high level and reach the goals we set as a team. »
Next to Ivan Delgado, Magaly Meynadier also went to through a recovery process, she will have to sit out a big part of the upcoming season –> Interview: Magaly Meynadier’s long and difficult road to recovery
