Jonathan Diederich has decided to play basketball in the USA next season. He will join the college of Wooster in Ohio, next to Cleveland.
Diederich took this decision during the European Championship this summer: „I had several offers on the table including options in Germany (Hamburg and Frankfurt) but after thinking about it and speaking to my family for a long time, I decided to take the challenge and try something completely new in the USA. I am sure that I can collect new and positive experiences in the United States. I have been playing in Germany and now it is time to discover a new country and basketball style and the United States are the nation of basketball. Another main reason to go to the USA is that the Wooster college showed a little more interest overall by giving me a scholarship and the possibility to combine studies and basketball in an ideal way. In Germany, I would probably have faced the situation that I either miss lessons at the university or practices/games which would have been difficult.“
Jonathan also knows why he decided to go to the Wooster college in particular: „The Wooster college is an excellent academic school which is very important to me. It is a division 3 college but the strongest one in the country. During the off season our team will also be competing against Division B and Division A teams. The most important part to me was that I was able to have a serious and good academic school, this might not have been possible if I joined a division A or B college for example. Furthermore, Wooster has a high budget for the team and plenty of individual coaches to help the players develop individually. Another big factor is that team basketball is the top priority at the Wooster college, something that I like a lot as a player. »
