Both the women’s and men’s 3×3 extended rosters, currently preparing the Games of the Small Countries and FIBA 3×3 Europe Cup Qualifiers, travelled to Düsseldorf for the weekend to participate in a training camp and a stop of the NRW3X3TOUR in Cologne (150 participating teams).
On Saturday, the two men’s teams started well into the tournament and were able to finish their pool in first place respectively. Unfortunately, the round of 16 would quickly end for both of our teams.
While Luxembourg B had no chance against several former teammates of Thomas Grun from Trier (21-14), the loss of Luxembourg A was harder to digest. Late in the game the players around Scott Morton gave a 3 point lead out of their hands, ended up losing in overtime and as such gave away their chance to progress further in the tournament.
Final standings:
Luxembourg A: 10th place
Luxembourg B: 14th place
Tournament teams:
Luxembourg A: Scott Morton, Vic Heuschling, Christopher Jack, Christophe Laures
Luxembourg B: Victor Stein, Tom Schomer, Denilson Ramos, Sam Ferreira
On Sunday, both men’s teams would practice in the morning and participate in a series of intra-squad scrimmages in the afternoon.
The women’s team also participated in the tour stop at Mediapark against 7 other teams and qualified for the semi-finals by only losing one of their pool games (18-15) against the winning team from 3×3 Jam in Marburg last weekend.
In the semi-final a defensive effort, holding the opponent to only 7 points, was the key to victory and signified another rematch against « The boys are back ».
Our team would once again come up short, but only 10-9 this time around, and showed a lot of promise.
Tournament team:
Cathy Schmit, Nadia Mossong, Bridget Yoerger, Lisa Jablonowski
On Sunday, several scrimmages against German national teams were organized and provided a good last test.
On our way to Malta!
