On Thursday evening, Luxembourg played the first game of the 2027 World Cup Pre-Qualifiers on the road in Romania.
Starting 5: Gutenkauf, Grün, Kovac, Laurent, Rugg
After Ben Kovac started the game with a dunk after 3 seconds, 7 different players scored points for Luxembourg in the first quarter, but the FLBB squad trailed 17:20 after 10 minutes. Luxembourg did not make a 3-point shot in the first half (0/11) and trailed 27:39 at the break.
Luxembourg was icecold from outside the arc and missed its first 18 attempts from three. However, Luxembourg cruised in the final minutes of the game and put up a remarkable fourth quarter (29:12) and the game wento to overtime! Thomas Grün even had a chance to win the game in regulation on a difficult shot – what a comeback by Luxembourg in the final minutes.
In the extra period, Max Logelin sparked Luxembourg with 7 points as Luxembourg went on to win the game 76:72! Certainly a victory that looked to be completely out of reach during most parts of the game.
