Luxembourg in action on Thursday and Sunday

Our men’s national team will host Romania on November 24th at the Coque in Kirchberg. It is the third game of the FIBA 2027 World Cup pre-qualifiers.

On Thursday, the FLBB squad will play a preparation game against SLUC Nancy (France). For this game, there is a 5 Euro entry fee and you can only buy tickets at the box office at the Coque in Kirchberg.

National team head coach Ken Diederich thinks that the preparation game is extremely important: „Once again, we face the situation that we only have one game in the FIBA window. That is why this game against Nancy is heavily important for the team. We need to find a rhythm and work on some things before Sunday’s game. I want to thank Nancy for helping us out once again. »

Diederich notes that the team had multiple injury problems over the last weeks but „everbody got healthy just in time. We have 17 players on the preliminary roster which gives me the great opportunity to choose the 12 guys that will dress up on Sunday. Obviously our professional players are sure to play, the other guys need to show in practice that they deserve a role and a spot on the team. »

3 groups are part of the pre-qualification, the 3 group winners and the best second placed will qualify for the next qualification round. This means that Luxembourg is challenged to grab a victory on Sunday. „If we want to qualify for the next round, we need to win, everybody knows it. However, there is no pressure on our team since we are the clear underdog. We were able to storm back in Romania and win the game, I expect the opponent to be completely focused on Sunday. »

The key players of team Luxembourg remain the same. Clancy Rugg has been a reliable force in the past while the profesisonal players that play abroad and the players of the Enovos League in Luxembourg are looking to fulfill their role within the team. A young player who made the headlines lately is Dorian Grosber. „Dorian is obviously a key player moving forward. He is currently in the development and there is no need to put extra pressure on him. He will definitely see his playing time increase in the next national team games. »

After winning the first duell on the road in Romania 76:72, our men’s national team is looking to repeat the success in front of our home fans. The Luxembourgish team needs YOUR SUPPORT!
