Main takeaways in the women’s Enovos League after one round

In the women’s Enovos League, all teams have played against each other once, the first round has come to an end. It is time to take a look at the main takeaways in the league.

The favorites
League champion Gréngewald Hueschtert is the only unbeaten team after 7 games and has underlined that the team is the favorite once again this season. However, multiple teams seem to be ready to attack the « Greens ». Sparta Bertrange and T71 Dudelange are second and third in the standings with a record of 5 wins and 2 losses. AB Contern attacks the top teams with a slower playing style as the team scores under 70 per game compared to 92.7 points per game by Gréngewald. A fifth team that wants to enter the discussion is Amicale Steinsel. The team of coach Erny Gruskovnjak has enough offensive firpower in its roster (third in the league with 80 points per game, 1st in the league in made 3-pointers) to surprise the strongest teams on any night.

Top players
Alexus Johnson came in as a replacement for Samantha Logic in Gréngewald. She has been amazing in her first few games and is leading the league in many statistical categories (video and post on instagram included in the article). She is the perfect player next to Amanda Cahill as Cahill can score plenty of points without needing the basketball a lot.

Top scorers:
1. Alexus Johnson – 26.9 ppg
2. Mikayla Ferenz – 24.3
3. Shawnta Shaw – 24.1

Top rebounders
1. Olivia Lane – 19.0 rpg
2. Alexus Johnson – 16.6
3. Beyonce Bea – 11.6

Top passers
1. Shalonda Winton – 6.0 apg
2. Alexus Johnson – 5.7
3. Jovana Jaksic – 5.3

JICL MVP race
The FLBB started to host an awards night in 2023 and this event will continue this season. It includes the JICL MVP award of the women’s and men’s Enovos league. A look at the stats shows that some players were able to impress early in the season. Isi Etute leads all JICL scorers with 17.1 points per game, she nearly averages a double double as she has 9.6 rebounds per game as well. Esmeralda Skrijelj is on top of the statistical categories as usual with 15.6 points (2nd), 8.7 rebounds (2nd) and 3.9 assists (1st). Steinsel has two strong scorers with Mandy Geniets and Isa Hämäläinen, Sparta’s Nicole Torresani has impressed with her overall performances and Lisy Hetting is playing on a high level as she has done over the last years.

Musel Pikes under pressure
One team will relegate to the National 2 at the end of the season. The Musel Pikes have not only lost every game so far, but they are also looking for a new coach as head coach Anan Majdi resigned early in the season. The Pikes score the fewest points (59.3 ppg) and also have the worst defense (82 points per game by the opponent), a difficult mix moving forward. Wiltz and Esch seem to be out of reach to make the top 4 play-offs at this moment, they need victories against stronger teams to stay in the playoff race.

The standings

Team Record Points
Gréngewald Hueschtert 7:0 14
Sparta Bertrange 5:2 12
T71 Dudelange 5:2 12
AB Contern 4:3 11
Amicale Steinsel 4:3 11
Sangliers Wiltz 2:5 9
Basket Esch 1:6 8
Musel Pikes 0:7 7
