The 8th game day in the men’s National 2 play-offs was played on Friday evening.
The already promoted league leader Kordall Steelers came up with a 98:96 victory over Black Star Mersch. behind 30 points by Spencer Scott. Avanti Mondorf has defended the second place in the standings with a 81:55 win on the road against the Hedgehogs Bascharage. Blake Seits and Jalen Green each had 23 points to lead their team to this important victory.
The game between Mambra Mamer and Racing Luxembourg was a big one as both teams were separated by only 1 point before Friday’s duell. In the end, Mamer won a nail biter 102:96 and because the team of Mike Smith was able to beat Racing twice in the play-offs, they earn the direct comparison and with a 2-point lead, Racing does not have a chance to catch the opponent over the last 2 weeks of the season. Dakota Zinser scored 35 points and Lewayne Grant added 32 to lead the team.
With only 2 game-days remaining, it is sure that Mondorf and Mamer will compete for the last direct promotion spot in the standings. Mondorf is in the pole position to earn that spot, but Mamer could take it over the last 2 game days. The tie breaker between both teams does not bring the decision as they scored the exact same amount of points in their two meetings in the play-offs. If both teams will finish the season tied, the points difference in the play-off round will decide. The 3rd placed team will have a chance at promotion too, but only through a promotion/relegation series.
The standings:
Kordall Steelers (20:4) – 44 points (Kordall has clinched promotion to the LBBL)
Avanti Mondorf (16:8) – 40 points
Mambra Mamer (15:9) – 39 points
Racing Luxembourg (13:11) – 37 points
Black Star Mersch (12:12) – 36 points
Hedgehogs Bascharage (12:12) – 36 points
After the play-offs, the top 2 teams promote to the LBBL while the 3rd placed team will play a best-of-3 promotion series against the third last placed team of the LBBL.
