Meynadier talks about the season / Game in Saarlouis on Sunday

Magaly Meynadier and her team Marburg have started the season in the DBBL (Damen Basketball Bundesliga) with 4 wins and 6 losses out of 10 games. The team also advanced to the quarter finals in the cup competition after beating Herne 76:73 in a close game last week.

Overall, Meynadier’s conclusion about the team’s performances after 10 games is mixed: „We started well into the season with a big win against Göttingen. After that game, we were very confident because we were in great shape physically. However, we struggled over the next games of the season and lost games that we should have won which was a bit frustrating. After a meeting where we talked about many different things, we were able to turn the season around and played much better over the next games. We are currently 8th in the standings which is not ideal compared to the expectations we have as a team but we can clearly see a positive movement at the moment. We won 3 out 4 games and also advanced in the cup competition where we are one victory away from the final four which would be a great accomplishment. We have a very young team with several players that play their first year professionally so that it is normal that we need time to adapt. The league is very balanced this season, there are plenty of surprises on every game day. We hope that we can use the positive momentum moving forward. »

Last weekend, Meynadier had her strongest performance of the season so far, shescored 13 points and added 4 assists and 4 steals and received the player of the game award after a 84:81 victory over Freiburg. „We played well from the start. Freiburg was not able to stop our pick and roll offense and I was able to take advantage. I was happy that my strong performance and the player of the game award came in a victory so that I could enjoy the performance even more. Right now, the focus is on the upcoming game in Saarlouis (Meynadier’s former team), I hope that plenty of people from Luxembourg will be at the game. Saarlouis has a strong team and it will be a big challenge to grab a victory on the road especially since Saarlouis has a taller team, we need to prepare well in order to compete under the baskets. »

The game in Saarlouis will be played on Sunday (15:00), the opponent is 11th in the standings with a 3:7 record which makes it a very important game to win for Meynadier and Marburg to stay in front in the standings.
