Gréngewald Hueschtert or Avanti Mondorf? Which club will play in the men’s LBBL in the upcoming 2023/24 season. This question will be answered in a best-of-3 series over the next ten days. The first duell will tip off on Sunday in Mondorf.
The team from the National 2, Avanti Mondorf, will have home court advantage to start the series on Sunday at 20:00. The team of coach Philip Dejworek, who will leave the club after this season, has played this promotion-series already last season against AB Contern. After very interesting and thrilling games, the team from the LBBL managed to beat Mondorf. New season, new chance for Mondorf, the team was close to reaching the direct promotion during the National 2 play-offs but lost a crucial game against Black Star Mersch on the second last game day and finally the points difference against Mambra Mamer was just not good enough to reach the second place of the standings. Gréngewald Hueschtert has had challenging games over the past couple of weeks and a little bit of luck was clearly involved for the team to reach this spot in the series. First, the team lost in overtime against Heffingen last weekend but opponent Zolwer could not take advantage and also lost its game against the Musel Pikes. Second, Gréngewald was able to beat Zolwer on a buzzer beating three-pointer two weeks ago. Now the team of coach Alex Pires wants to be the first to two victories and continue to play in the highest basketball league in Luxembourg. While the women’s team of the club is currently fighting for the LBBL championship, the men’s team is challenged in a series that should become interesting to watch.
US Heffingen and AS Zolwer relegated to the National 2 while the Kordall Steelers and Mambra Mamer were able to promote to the LBBL.
