Erica Morrow has a special role in Steinsel. She is coaching and playing at the same time. In this interview, she is also talking about the current situation and the very intense play-off-race in the women’s league.
How do you manage both roles (player and coach) at the same time?
E.M: It is very challenging to manage both roles as a player and coach. From emotions to making adjustments. However, preparation has been the biggest key for me. Watching and breaking down film almost daily has helped me come into games with a solid defensive and offensive plan of attack. I watch film with one of my friends who is like my accountability partner so I get different perspectives. But it’s a responsibility I’ve had a lot in the past.
4 teams are tied at the places 3-6 in the women’s league. How challenging is the situation and what will be most important for your team over the next games?
E.M: The current situation is challenging but also makes for a more interesting season. This is my 5th season and most of the seasons I’ve been here the champion was pretty much known ahead of time. So it’s very unpredictable this season. It is important that we close out the last 3 games with victories but most importantly playing good basketball. We’ve implemented some new components on offense and defense. Going into the top 6 our goal is to continue to improve while other teams plateau.
