Our women’s national team will face Slovakia on November 24th (19:00) at the Coque in Kirchberg for the third game of the Women’s EuroBasket 2023 qualifiers. National team head coach Mariusz Dziurdzia knows that his shorthanded team will face a difficult game in front of our home crowd. First of all, the national team needs the support from the stands and hopefully, many people will visit the game in Kirchberg to support team Luxembourg.
Luxembourg has not played against Slovakia so far in this competition. The national team head coach expects his team to show a great fioghting spirit against the visiting team: „I expect my team to fight for 40 minutes. Everybody knows that it will be a difficult game against a strong opponent. Slovakia is ranked number 23 in the World rankings (Luxembourg ranks 67th), they have plenty of very strong and tall professional players. Obviously, we are missing our players from the USA. Furthermore, Magaly Meynadier (injured) and Nadia Mossong (break), two of the main players of our team, are missing too. We try to stay in the game and use our chance if it arrives. Slovakia lost to Italy by only 3 points, that shows how strong they can be. Most of their players play in the strongest leagues in Europe, we are facing a huge challenge on Thursday.“
The question is how the team will compensate the absences of many key players and the message by Dziurdzia is clear: „The whole team needs to step up. These two games are a chance for some players to step up and show their talent. I expect my team to play without fear and fight at every moment of the game. The goal is to show our talent, we have players with experience that are capable of taking over responsibility and that is what I want to see on Thursday and on Sunday in Switzerland.“
Slovakia has played 2 games so far in this competition. They lost 66:69 against group favorite Italy and won 65:50 on the road in Switzerland.
