At 25 years of age, Philippe Gutenkauf has established himself as the point guard of team Luxembourg. The sharpshooter of Etzella Ettelbruck is leading the Total League (JICL-players) in scoring so far this season at 15.6 points per game. In the national team, his role is growing continuously.
In the Coaches`podcast a few days ago, head-coach Ken Diederich said that Sticky (his nickname) „represents what we are all about. He is not big but has a big heart. He works hard, is selfless, a great guy and not afraid to take the big shot. We can rely on him and he is a young player who has also improved his defense and who will be a big part of the future in the national team. »
Philippe Gutenkauf responded to the comments by his coach by saying that „it is always great to hear such thing from your coach. I just try to give everything that I have at every practice and with that attitude, I want to encourage the whole team. »
Gutenkauf has worked hard over the last years to become an elite player in Luxembourg. „When it comes to basketball, I am extremely ambitious, I just hate to lose. 🙂 »
In Ettelbruck, one of the country’s best teams over the last years, Gutenkauf has had a strong development. „I have improved my decision making, I make a lot less errors than I did some years ago when we played against Amicale in the finals, for example. I have to say that all my coaches gave me a lot of confidence which helped me immensely as a player. »
« Sticky » Gutenkauf will clearly be an important player both with his club and the FLBB-squad over the next years.
