Pit Hansen will combine studies and basketball in the USA next season. The 18-year old guard was the 6th best JICL scorer in the men’s National 2 last season with 11.5 points per game for Black Star Mersch, now he is looking for a new challenge abroad.
Hansen will study at the “Lakeland university“ in Plymouth (Wisconsin, picture below). „I talked to the head coach of the team via zoom and we had a great meeting which made this decision easy for me. Furthermore, the university helped me out immediately with paper work and they contacted me multiple times so that I felt really comfortable joining this school. I also had contact to some of the players and they told me that the university is small and there is a familiar atmosphere and that is something that I like a lot. I think that Lakeland will be the right place for me. »
Hansen will study chemistry at the university, but basketball will be highly important in his every day life: „I took this step to practice and play with guys that are as passionate about the game as myself. I am sure that I will have a lot of fun in the USA. The fact that I can combine studies and basketball is perfect for me. We will have a lot of practice and I will try to develop as a player every day. In my opinion, it will help a lot to practice and play at a high level with good players on a daily basis, I am looking forward to that. Being alone in a new country will help me develop as a human being which makes this a very interesting and challenging adventure. By going to the USA, I take a step out of my comfort zone and this will be very challenging to find out where I am at as a basketball player. »
Hansen says that his first goal as a basketball player is reached by playing in a different country: „I dreamed for a long time about playing abroad and that is one goal that I have achieved with this decision. When it comes to playing professionally, I have that goal in my ming but obviously I will now have to see how I will develop as a player. If I will get the chance to play professional basketball, I will most likely take it in a few years from now. Basketball has always been a big part of my life, I have had amazing moments thanks to the sport and I hope that these situations will continue to arrive for me. I am young and I will have to wait and see what the future holds. »
