In the men’s National 2 play-offs, game day 9 out of 10 was played this weekend.
Avanti Mondorf wins the key game of the week against the Black Frogs Schieren, the final score was 75:68. With this victory, Mondorf has a 1-point lead over both Schieren and Mersch heading into the final game day. Unless Mondorf loses by 23 points or more against Black Star next Saturday, the team of coach Bob Adam will promote to the LBBL for the first time in club’s history. Schieren needs to grab a win against Heffingen on the final game day in order to reach the third place and play the promotion series against the Musel Pikes or the Kordall Steelers.
On Sunday, Black Star Mersch was able to beat AS Zolwer 96:87. Jeremiah Culver (33) and Marquavian Stephens (30) combined for 63 points. Black Star needs to beat Mondorf by more than 22 points next weekend and a loss by Schieren against Heffingen at the same time to reach the second place and promote to the LBBL. Mersch can also reach the third place with a victory by less than 22 points over Mondorf and a loss by Schieren at the same time.
In a possible 3-team-tie between Mondorf, Schieren and Black Star after 10 rounds, Mondorf would take second place and promote, Schieren would take the third place and play the promotion series and Mersch would take the fourth place and be eliminated.
League leader US Heffingen was able to beat Racing Luxembourg 84:76 behind a team-high 18 points by Philippe Arendt. This game did not have an influence on the race for promotion, Heffingen clinched its place in the LBBL several weeks ago.
