The first round (8 game days) have been played in the men’s National 2.
Racing Luxembourg is on top of the league standings with a perfect 8:0 record. The team of coach Adam Radomirovic beats opponents by an average of nearly 28 points per game. In fact, not one of their games has been really close so far, their closest win was a 9-point victory over the Kordall Steelers. On average, the team from capital scores over 90 points per game and has a nice team balance behind Antunio Bivins leading the way with 25 points per game. In their last victory against Black Star on Saturday, all 11 players scored points.
The Black Frogs Schieren and Gréngewald Hueschtert follow leader Racing in the standings with a 6:2 record. Gréngewald had to play without injured pro player Marcus Gilbert for many games and is still in a great situation in the league standings. Gilbert had an impressive game on Saturday when he hit 11 threes to lead the Greens to a 103:82 victory over BC Mess. Schieren is in a similar spot than the last two years, the team is trying to keep pace with the best teams in the league and play an interesting role in the promotion race at the end of the play-offs.
Zolwer, the Kordall Steelers and BC Mess follow as a trio in the standings with a balanced 4:4 record. While a qualification for the play-off spots does not seem to be in danger for all 3 of them, they need victories to stay in touch with the top teams in the standings if they want to have a chance at promoting at the end of the season. Zolwer’s Kaden Sand leads the league with over 32 points per game, Jackson Meshanic of Schieren follows in second place with 29 points per game while Dean Gindt leads all JICL players with nearly 14 points per game.
Overall, several teams are looking to play a role in the play-offs as multiple teams play on a similar level. On the other hand, several teams play without a professional player which makes it difficult to compete against the stronger teams in the league. Bascharage (1 victory), Bettembourg (1 victory) and Mersch (2 victories) are clearly behind in the league standings.
Let’s remember that the top 6 teams will enter the play-offs, the top 2 teams will promote to the Enovos League while the third placed team will play a promotion series (best-of-3) against the third worst team of the Enovos League.
