This Saturday and Sunday, the women’s Total League will restart. After one game was played last week (Musel Pikes – Etzella 64:54), 8 teams will be in action this weekend. Just as last season, the women’s league is extremely competitive and most teams are playing on a very similar level.
The unbeaten leader Musel Pikes (5:0) won its game against Etzella last week and will get a week of rest as always one team does not play in the women’s 9-team-league.
AB Contern has decided to play with only one professional player (Sommerfield) which limits their chances of winning games against the strong teams in the league. In their home game against Basket Esch, the guests are the clear favorites to come up with a victory. Contern has not won a game so far this season.
Playing without professional players for the rest of the season, Sparta (0:4) is looking for different challenges than winning games. In their first game to restart the season, Sparta hosts Amicale Steinsel. The guests have not started the season well (1:4) and are looking to climb in the standings over the next weeks.
The top game of the weekend between Gréngewald (3:1) and Résidence (3:2) has no favorite on the paper. After their Euro Cup experience in December, the « greens » will now focus on the championship, they have won the title in 2019. Résidence will rely on its dangerous professional duo to make noise in the title-race.
Etzella wants to react after a loss in Stadtbredimus. The champion will host T71, a very difficult challenge. This game is the only one that will be played on Sunday.
The new modus
Because of the special season, the FLBB worked out a new modus to finish the season 2020/21. The first 6 teams will have a chance to win the championship. Because teams are playing on a similar level, everybody wants to grab the 1st and 2nd place in the standings, these places immediately secure a spot in the semi-finals. The 3rd placed team will play a single-elimination do-or-die game against the 6th team and the 4rd placed team will play against the 5th placed team in order to determine the semi-finalists. The semi-finals and finals will be played in a « best-of-3-series » if the situation regarding the Covid-19-virus allows it.
