Game day 3 was played in the men’s National 2 this weekend. After most teams have played 3 games, there are 2 leaders in the standings. League favorite Heffingen might not be a big surprise to stand on top of the league but the Black Frogs Schieren clearly are the team of the hour in the second division.
The team of coach Nigel Tolentino was able to stay unbeaten (3:0) after a double overtime thriller on the road in Mersch, the game ended 85:79 in favor of the guests. Desean Hampton led Schieren with 30 points and 26 rebounds, Daniel Freichel added a double-double as well (16/11).
US Heffingen continues to underline its role as the favorite of the league after grabbing a 98:83 win on the road in the capital against Racing Luxembourg. Mark Burkholder led his team with 34 points, Philippe Arendt (21) and Tom Schomer (20) added strong performances as Heffingen scored 35 points in the fourth quarter to earn the victory. Flenard Whitfield and Eddie Davis combined for 61 points for the hosts.
On Sunday, AS Zolwer was able to beat Avanti Mondorf 81:71. Tylik Evans had 30 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists to lead his team to a second victory in 3 games while Mondorf remains winless in 2 games.
BC Mess (2:0) did not play this weekend.
