After Sparta’s women team announced earlier to finish the season without professional players, Sparta announced today (Wednesday) that their men’s team will also play without professional players for the rest of the season 2020/21.
The club says on its website that the „decision has been taken to develop our local players in a best possible way by giving them responsibility on the court. The club is convinced that our players are, or will become strong enough to compete against teams with one or two American players but is also aware of the big challenge for our players and coaches.
In addition, the club will use this period to continue to integrate our youngsters from our Sparteens program, leading youth development project.“
Some clubs have already announced to bring back their professional players so that the teams in the Total League will be on a very different level to finish the season.
