On Wednesday evening, our men’s national team hosted Croatia for the third game in the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 PreQualifiers. At the Coque in Kirchberg in front of 1650 people, Luxembourg lost 79:91 after playing a strong overall game and an amazing second half.
Croatia had a strong start and led 25:12 after the first quarter. The FLBB squad showed great figthing spirit under the baskets and collected nearly as many rebounds as the opponent in the first half. Furthermore, the team of coach Ken Diederich knocked down some outside shots in the second quarter and managed to score 25 points in the second quarter, just as many as Croatia, the score was 37:50 at half-time.
Croatia continued to control the game in the second half but Luxembourg did not allow the opponent to run away with its lead in the third quarter. Thanks to a strong effort on both ends of the floor, Luxembourg reduced the deficit to only 8 points with 4 minutes remaining. It was a furious run by our team in the fourth quarter that put pressure on the opponent to show a reaction. Luxembourg won the fourth quarter 24:17 and finally lost the game by only 12 points.
