Svenia Nurenberg went to the USA in 2019 to combine studies and basketball at Campbell university. 5 years later, Svenia’s time in the USA comes to an end. „I am definitely a little sad that my time in the United States comes to an end. It was an amazing experience, these 5 years have been an amazing experience. In the United States, sport has such a great value, we practiced under professional conditions. All the people that I met from all around the world have been so wonderful and the American mentality has helped me develop and enjoy my time abroad. Everybody made me feel welcome and I felt like I was at home which allowed me to focus on my school and on basketball. That is why I am leaving the United States with a couple of tears in my eyes. »
The season ended for Campbell in the quarterfinals of the conference. Overall, the team had a record of 17 wins and 14 losses in 2023/24. „We can be satisfied with the results because we played in a very strong CAA conference. At the start of the season, we had some difficulties to adapt to the rhythm but we improved over time and with a little bit of luck, a better result would have been possible. Unfortunately, we were not able to qualify for the March Madness tournament, the tournament was cancelled during the Covid pandemic so that I never had the opportunity to participate. I am very happy for Anne Simon and I want to use this opportunity to send my congratulations to her for an outstanding season. »
The 23-year-old former player of T71 Dudelange will probably come back to Luxembourg at the end of May, she finished two bachelor degrees (psychology and social work) and now, she wants to add a master’s degree in psychology. „In Luxembourg, I want to enjoy time with my family and our dog. I will then see where I can add a master’s degree, I have not taken a decision yet where I want to go. However, it is clear to me that I will continue to play basketball. »
Last but not least, Svenia wants to motivate young players to choose a similar way: „I enjoyed every moment in the States. If a young basketball player gets the chance to go to the USA, I will always encourage her to try it. I can almost guarantee that they will not regret the choice. It is clearly a different world but it is worth it. »
