Tara Booker, head coach of the men’s team Kordall Steelers (LBBL), was part of the FIBA European Women’s Basketball Summit that was held the first week of July. The camp provides an opportunity to improve one’s skill set in an international environment. The annual camp, previously run under the banner of FIBA Europe U15 Girls’ Camp, is organized by FIBA in cooperation with the Slovenian Basketball Federation (KZS).
Comment by Tara Booker:
„I was one of 22 female coaches, 24 referees, and 6 FIBA referees, to be brought together from various countries, with a shared passion of the game. It was a unique opportunity to discuss basketball in an international stage, and share our experiences, opinions, and goals for the future of women in basketball.
The summit was located in Postojna Slovenia, and involved an intense 3 day schedule filled with coaching techniques, skill development, guest speakers, and open dialogue. An overarching theme in the summit was the disparity of women in this basketball. It is unfortunate, but we are often over looked and under estimated. FIBA has made it a priority to provide spaces for women to develop, grow, and be highlighted. I am grateful to have been given this opportunity to mature my own coaching skills, work with talented women within this sport, and represent the very capable women we are fortunate to have in Luxembourgish basketball.“
