The men’s cup (1/4 finals) were played on Wednesday and Thursday evening.
Telstar – Sparta 87:69
A little surprise in Hesperange! Telstar goes to the coque by beating Sparta after a hot shooting night in front of their home fans. 14 made shots from behind the arc were in the box score at the end for the hosts, Jefferson had a team-high 26 points while Goebel added 20 points, Sparta was 2/26 from the 3-point-line, not good enough to win a game.
Etzella – Contern 86:77
In a very tight game, Etzella had the late run to win this game. Philippe Gutenkauf had a team-high 26 points and Charles Williams added 25. Contern’s professional players scored 59 out of the 79 points for the guests.
On Wednesday, Arantia and Basket qualified for the semi finals:
Mondorf (+10) – Arantia 78:83
Arantia Larochette started with a 10-point deficit against the second league Mondorf and at the break, the situation was even more difficult for the team of coach Christophe Ney as the hosts had a 47:32 lead! However, the LBBL team tied the score after 5 minutes in the second half at 52:52 with a big run and after 30 minutes, the team from Larochette led 64:58 after winning the thirs quarter 32:11. In the final quarter, Arantia was able to control the game and qualify for a game in the Coque. Arantia led by 10+ points, Mondorf reduced the deficit with late 3-pointers but the guests were in full control over the last minutes. Sturdivant (27), Johnson (21) and Derek Wilson (20) scored 20+ points for Arantia.
Basket Esch – Résidence 75:67
In a very intense and low scoring game, the final minutes were decisive in the top game of the cup 1/4 finals. Joé Biever came up clutch (videos) as Basket Esch was able to win a close game at home against the leader of the LBBL, Résidence Walfer.
Clancy Rugg (24 points, 10 rebounds), Jordan Hicks (21/7) and a clutch Joé Biever led Esch to the semi finals. Alex Stein led the guests with 18 points.
In the women’s cup competition, T71, Amicale, Résidence and Basket Esch have qualified for the semi-finals.
