The basketball season 2024/25 is only a few weeks away, the clubs have started the pre-season and the first friendly games are being played.
Let’s take a look at the game mode in the women’s and men’s leagues (National 1, National 2, National 3).
In the men’s competition, the game mode will remain the same compared to the previous season. 12 compete in the first league, 9 teams play in the second league and 10 teams play in the third league. In the National 1, the best 8 teams will compete in the play-offs to determine the champion 2024/25.
Men’s National 1
12 teams: Amicale Steinsel, Basket Esch, AB Contern, Etzella Ettelbruck, Musel Pikes, Résidence Walfer, Sparta Bertrange, T71 Dudelange, Arantia Larochette, US Heffingen, Avanti Mondorf, Mambra Mamer
Men’s National 2
9 teams: Gréngewald Hueschtert, AS Zolwer, Black Frogs Schieren, Racing Luxembourg, Black Star Mersch, BC Mess, Kordall Steelers, Hedgehogs Bascharage, Nitia Bettembourg
Men’s National 3
In the men’s National 3, 2 new teams have entered the competition with VIBBALL Echternach and Cedars. 2 B-teams will complement the league. The top 2 A-teams after the regular season will compete in the “Play-off / Play-down » against the bottom team from the National 2.
10 teams: VIBBALL Echternach, Cedars, North Fox Clierf, BBC Diekirch, Les Sangliers Wiltz, East Side Pirates, Rebound Préizerdall, Telstar Hesperange, Arantia Larochette B, Racing B
In the women’s competition, the game mode has changed because the number of teams has been reduced to 8 teams moving forward. All 8 teams will meet each other 3 times before the start of the semi finals and the play-down. 1 club will relegate to the National 2. The top 2 teams of the National 2 season will play a promotion best-of-3 series to fight for a spot in the highest league.
