Good news for the women’s Total League. In the upcoming season, Les Sangliers Wiltz will join the first league and there will finally be 10 teams again in the highest women’s league. The club made the request to play in the highest league and it was accepted by the FLBB’s committee.
For president Pit Hetting, the request to participate in the Total League came after discussions with all concerned people: „One year ago, we were on top of the standings in the Nationale 2 but because of the situation around the Covid-19 virus, we decided not to move up to the highest league. Over the past months, the situation, including the financial situation, has stabilized and so we took the chance to discuss this move with our committee and our women’s team and cam to the conclusion was that there was a large majority in favor of joining the best league. »
For Hetting, playing in the women’s Total League brings a lot of advantages: „Nobody talks about the women’s second division, the media presence is inexistent. We want to make a step forward at this point and that’s why we take this risk.“
The women’s Total League has been extremely competitive the last seasons, the level of play is very high. For Wiltz, it will be a challenge to be competitive: „Everybody knows that no player wants to come to Wiltz (laughs), especially not if we play in the Nationale 2. However, we also have the advantage that players do not leave our team immediately, that is why we have had a continuous roster ove the last years. The plan is to recruit some luxembourgish players, now that we know that we will play in the Total League, we can start talking to some players. »
With a 10-team league, every team will play a game on every game-day, something that has been the case with 9 teams. The women’s Total League will become even more competitive next season.
